The NeighbourWoods Production Week 5

This Week I worked on some of the diffuse textures and some models.

I made the karakusa bandanna texture for Shobe. Now the karakusa pattern is fairly intricate so it took me a while and it is continuous so I had to find a way to stop it so that there would be a seam on the texture.

Shobe's pretty bandanna

I modeled the lilly-pads this week. Initially I was trying to make 3d models for the lilly-pads before it was pointed out by Petr that I could just use flat planes instead and texture with cutout transparency to create the shape. I did a similar thing for the lotus flower, which I'm pretty proud of, though it would look pretty good with an opaque texture even.

I also made the fern model with a similar idea in mind. I wanted it to look pretty natural so I made the fronds different heights and didn't have them at 'straight angles' with each other eg. 90° or 180°.

In great news I fixed my Mudbox on my home computer! It only took me a few months, oh well, it's good I can use it now for all the diffuse texturing I'm going to do now for the Game.

For example the Cat diffuse textures!
I did Mishka's texture first as she has a different model from the other cats.

For the other cat's textures I made use of layers to create different pieces of the cat textures like eyes in different colours, nose and mouth in two colours, different bases colours and patterns, etc. This is so that I don't need to paint each cat's textures individually and save time for us.
All the layers turned on, except the collar because it doesn't look good, and cats aren't fond of collars anyway

I'm pretty proud of the familiar's pattern as I came up with idea of having stripes in the shape of a pentagram (a symbol often associated with witchcraft) on his back.
He's definitely a witch's cat
The cat textures will need a little more polishing later though.
